چکیده

During the past two decades, scientific interest and public health concern have shifted their focus from issues connected with overt clinical lead disease to the detection of subtle clinical and biochemical abberations.' This has brought about a change in the thinking on the health risks that are associated with lead toxicity.23 Although major emphasis has been set on lead hazards among pediatric populations, there has also been a gradual lowering of the occupational biological standards in many countries. The several investigations that have shown an association between low level, community related exposure to lead and impairment in child development have provided a strong scientific basis for the decision of the Centers for Disease Control in the United States to define lead toxicity at a blood lead concentration of 10 mcg/dl.' By analogy, reports that neurotoxic effects and abnormalities in the male reproductive system of workers exposed to lead can be detected at blood lead concentrations below that at which removal from exposure is usually mandated, begin to question the safety of blood lead standards that are widely accepted as safe.7' A deja vu from the 1970s, but this time it concerns even lower blood lead concentrations!P' As the scientific spectrum ofeffects induced by lead has been widened, toxic effects of lead have also been detected in organ systems that historically were not part of the clinical features of lead poisoning. Mechanisms of action of characteristic effects are being studied in greater detail as well." Although many biochemical and molecular perturbations caused by lead have been studied in experimental

Toxicity of pesticides to plants and non-target organism: A comprehensive review

Abstract Pesticides are agrochemical used to increase agronomic production and higher economic profit. However, these chemical pesticides could be persistent in soil and water, collective in silt or bio-aggregates in biota relying upon their dissolvability, prompting various kinds of natural contamination. These pesticides have also shown detrimental effects such as phytotoxicity, genotox...

Apoptosis as a Potential Target in Therapeutic and Vaccine Interventions against Parasitic Diseases

Apoptosis is a physiological cell death that occurs under normal conditions in major biological processes, including the removal of old, damaged, extra, or harmful cells. It plays an important role in natural evolution, tissue homeostasis, removal of cells damaged or infected by viruses, and removal of immune cells activated against self-antigens. The purpose of this review was to examine the r...

P-15: Effects of Vitamin E and Cystein on Semen Quality and Biochemical Parameters Related with Lead Toxicity in the Male Rat

Background: This study was undertaken to investigate whether treatment with vitamin E and N acetyl cystein protects rat sperm by inhibiting reactive oxygen species generation induced by lead (Pb) exposure. Materials and Methods: After an acclimatization period of one week, 20 Male rats were divided into 4 groups of 5 rats each. Animals within different treatment groups were maintained on their ...

Current issues in the epidemiology and toxicology of occupational exposure to lead.

Occupational exposure to lead is widespread in the United States. Clinically evident lead poisoning as well as subclinical toxicity occur in populations with occupational lead exposure. The focus of current research on lead toxicity in industrial populations is in the definition of dose-response relationships, particularly at low levels of exposure. Major interest surrounds the development of b...

Differential genes expression analysis of invasive aspergillosis: a bioinformatics study based on mRNA/microRNA

Invasive aspergillosis is a severe opportunistic infection with high mortality in immunocompromised patients. Recently, the roles of microRNAs have been taken into consideration in the immune system and inflammatory responses. Using bioinformatics approaches, we aimed to study the microRNAs related to invasive aspergillosis to understand the molecular pathways involved in the disease pathogenes...
